picture1One day training sessions that seek to ignite thinking and challenge the status-quo of organisations.

Our Spark events are one day or twilight training sessions that take place in other organisations looking to improve, challenge or deepen how they engage with creative music making.

We tailor each Spark to the exact needs of an organisation. For example:

  • How to engage non-specialist musicians in creative composition.
  • What to do when your early-years repertoire needs refreshing.
  • How to capture the imagination of adults, as well as children.

We carry out Spark events in a range of settings including conferences, corporate environments, community organisations and schools. Each event consists of a combination of Soundcastle resources, creative ways to activate and engage your team and practical ideas of how to get more music happening the very next day.

Example – Watergate School

Watergate School is Lewisham’s primary school for children with severe learning difficulties.

ExpressionBrief: To provide energetic, positive training that would have a long lasting impact with minimal upfront contact time (due to scheduling and budget restraints). To inspire more singing and music making across the school both in and outside of music sessions.

Soundcastle Response: A new model based on two facilitators spending one afternoon both observing and demonstrating approaches with the two most senior music teachers in the school. This is followed by a twilight training session with the entire staff team in which songs and activities are created, explored and reflected upon. Follow-up support is Wellbeing Weeksprovided via email and phone with the music teachers who seek to continue training staff in creative musicking. This model has since been recommissioned twice, meaning Soundcastle can tailor the training specifically with the particular staff, children and environment in mind. It also enables the school to have maximum reach with minimum contact/ cost, whilst enjoying a sustainable and ongoing support programme from their Soundcastle facilitators.

Feedback from teachers at Watergate Primary School:

‘The ideas you brought here today make us break through some of the barriers we find to teaching music’

‘Thoroughly enjoyed and feel inspired to continue to use music through the day, for pleasure, wellbeing and all learning. Great, simple ideas that are easily used by non-musical background teachers (like me!)’

‘Please come back to Watergate and work in our class – continuing inspiration required!’
