It took an honest conversation with a friend of mine to decide to pursue a career in music. I was 19 years old by then and had only just begun to discover how to use my voice. I first joined a choir called Solid Harmony which had a shiny new offshoot which I really inspired me to get to a level where I was able to become part of. This hierarchical structure of practice is what makes New Young Voice Collective (New YVC) such a safe space for me to grow – with peers and mentors to keep everyone inspired and improving; leading to it receiving Youth Music funding for consecutive years.
New YVC has been the resident choir of Stratford Circus Arts Centre for almost a decade since its inception in 2011.
Highlight performances with Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra from Washington DC; a headline show at the Southbank Centre in the summer of 2017 where we premiered a song I collaboratively wrote in a project for the choir ‘Message’ which was performed again when we were the headline act at the first ever Youth Music Awards held in Battersea Arts Centre last year.
Now a rapidly improving practitioner and workshop leader enjoying growing and performing with a variety of groups and individuals.
