People’s Music is our Creative Health music programme for adults on a mental health recovery journey.
We support people to rebuild their lives following a mental health crisis, partnering with social prescribers, mental health charities, cultural spaces and recovery colleges.
People’s Music welcomes any adult who is struggling with their mental health into a safe and creative space. Sessions are accessible (no previous musical experience needed) and are co-designed with mental health practitioners. Everything we do is about building confidence, self-esteem and belonging – claiming an artistic identity and taking steps to feel part of a community once more. Led by specialist music facilitators with lived experience of mental health challenges, People’s Music offers a welcoming creative community where people can build resilience, realise their artistic potential and challenge themselves to make high quality, exciting new music, breaking down stigma around mental health.
People’s Music happens in community and cultural centres, encouraging people to reintegrate with their community beyond the programme. We compose, record and perform regularly in Sussex and collaborate with cultural partners such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Barefoot Opera. We have two long-term embedded programmes taking place in Shoreham-by-Sea and Hastings in partnership with Sussex Recovery College and also offer short term project interventions with partners who share our vision.

People’s Music artists tell us:
“Within these groups I can contribute and I am listened to. This is very validating, and in turn I can take that into my life outside of the groups.”
“To have the opportunity to engage with something creative each week pushes my joy button.”
“I wouldn’t leave my flat before finding this group. Now I have a reason to go out.”
“It creates the most amazing feeling of belonging; of being seen and heard.”

Musical Beacons is our joyful, inclusive music programme for children, parents and carers facing challenging circumstances.
We support children and families experiencing neurodivergence, the care system, adoption, social isolation and financial deprivation, by partnering with housing associations, adoption and fostering agencies and family hubs. We support young people to achieve their first qualifications through Arts Award.
Musical Beacons welcomes children and families into creative spaces where music becomes a tool for connection, communication and joy. Led by specialist facilitators with experience in trauma, SEND and lived experience of care, Musical Beacons offers a safe, supportive space where every voice is celebrated, bonds are strengthened and confidence is boosted.
Musical Beacons happens in community centres, refuges, shelters, schools and online in bespoke 1:1 family settings. We collaborate with cultural partners such as Roly-Poly Theatre Company and Spun Glass in order to broaden access to the arts.

Musical Beacons families tell us:
“It was the first time I have ever seen my child relax, it was priceless”
“As a foster carer, it feels really good to support them [the child] to achieve something tangible in a world that our kids can find hard to achieve in… Arts Award is a recognised qualification that genuinely allows them to explore and develop real life skills.”
“There was a sense of togetherness – we all worked together and it supported our family dynamic.”
